► (1809-47) Compositor alemán. En 1835 fue nombrado director musical del Gewandhaus de Leipzig, donde estrenó numerosas obras contemporáneas y antiguas. Divulgó la obra de Beethoven y contribuyó en gran manera al resurgimiento de la de Bach. Sus obras se caracterizan por la elegancia y la riqueza melódica: Romanzas sin palabras (piano), Sueño de una noche de verano y La gruta de Fingal (oberturas), entre otras.
